Abstract The crystal structures and formation reactions of lanthanum hydride selenides were studied by neutron diffraction on the deuterides. reaction La 2 D 2− x Se with deuterium gas (298 K≤ T ≤567 K, 0.1 MPa≤ p (D )≤9.0 MPa) was followed in situ a sapphire single‐crystal gas‐pressure cell time resolution two minutes. phase fractions Se, 3 4 determined Rietveld refinement. With stepwise increasing pressure at 498 K up to 3.0 MPa is deuterated Se. remains present, even when further 9.0 heating 567 K. previously suggested structural models confirmed refinement (La 1.6 Se: Ce O S type, m 1, =4.1268(1) Å, c =6.8733(3) Å 298 K; Ba H Cl =4.139(2) =6.960(5) F , =4.0542(2) =22.609(2) 310 K). exhibits considerable hydrogen dependent width (0≤ <0.40).
